Port Houston Advances Bayport Reefer Expansion
Additional design work approved for a new container yard with capacity for more than 1,800 refrigerated containers.

Port Houston has approved further design work on its Bayport Reefer Expansion project, advancing plans for a new container yard dedicated to refrigerated cargo. The facility is designed to accommodate more than 1,800 reefer containers, representing a substantial increase in cold-chain handling capacity.
This investment reflects the growing importance of temperature-controlled logistics in global trade, particularly for perishable goods and pharmaceuticals, and positions Houston to better serve shippers requiring reliable reefer infrastructure.

LIMA Expert Insight
Expanding reefer capacity requires specialised training in cold-chain logistics, equipment handling and cargo monitoring systems. Terminal operators and logistics professionals should anticipate growing demand for expertise in refrigerated cargo management as such facilities come online.
