Competency
Ability to ship radioactive material by air in compliance with IATA DGR and IAEA.
Target Audience
Shippers, freight forwarders, airline personnel, and radiation safety officers.
Course Overview
This specialized course provides in-depth training on the regulations for shipping radioactive material by air, integrating the requirements of both the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material. It is designed for shippers, freight forwarders, airline personnel, and radiation safety officers responsible for the safe and compliant transport of Class 7 (Radioactive Material) by air. The program covers specific classification criteria, packaging requirements (Type A, Type B, excepted packages), shielding, labeling, marking, and critical documentation for radioactive shipments. Participants will gain the expertise to manage these highly regulated goods, ensuring safety and preventing non-compliance.
Learning Objectives
- Apply specific IATA DGR and IAEA regulations for the safe transport of Class 7 Radioactive Material by air.
- Identify and classify different types of radioactive material based on activity, half-life, and form.
- Select appropriate packaging (e.g., excepted, Type A, Type B) and shielding for radioactive shipments.
- Determine Transport Index (TI) and Criticality Safety Index (CSI) as required.
- Prepare accurate documentation, including the Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods with specific radioactive material entries.
- Understand emergency response procedures and security provisions for radioactive shipments.
- Ensure proper segregation and stowage on aircraft.
