MARITIME ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

This course focuses on the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for the maritime sector. It addresses the growing importance of environmental stewardship and strict regulations like MARPOL. Participants will learn how to design an EMS based on the ISO 14001 standard, focusing on minimizing a fleet's environmental footprint. The program covers topics such as waste management, ballast water control, and air emissions, providing the tools to achieve compliance, reduce costs, and enhance the company's environmental performance. Reference is made throughout to MARPOL, BWM Convention, AFS Convention, Hong Kong Convention, London Convention and OPRC Convention, together with their practical application to maritime environmental management systems. Participants will practise how to understand the principles of environmental management and their application in the maritime industry, develop and implement an effective Environmental Management System, ensure compliance with international environmental regulations, including MARPOL and identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact and improving resource efficiency.
